Just Cook is a Chrome extension designed to display online recipes in a clean, easy-to-read format, save recipes to a personal list, and allow users to send recipes to their phone using a QR code.
Just Cook does not collect, track, or sell any personal information.
Recipe history and user preferences (such as saved recipes and app settings) are stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us.
To enable optional phone syncing, recipe content (including title, ingredients, instructions, images, and the URL of the recipe page) is temporarily stored in a secure database for up to 24 hours before being automatically deleted, solely so the recipe can be displayed on your phone after scanning the QR code.
No personal identifiers or account data are stored.
Just Cook needs to run on any webpage in order to detect and reformat a recipe when you're viewing one, since recipes can appear on any website. The extension only activates its recipe-display features when it detects recipe content on a page — it does not read, collect, or transmit the content of pages that don't contain a recipe you choose to save.
Locally stored data is used solely to display your saved recipe list and remember your preferences within the extension.
Temporarily stored recipe data (including the recipe page URL) is used solely to allow users to view the recipe on their phone after scanning the QR code, and is automatically deleted within 24 hours.
Just Cook uses the following third-party services:
Firebase — used as temporary storage for syncing recipes between devices. Recipe data is automatically deleted within 24 hours.
Stripe — used to process optional Pro subscription payments. Just Cook does not access or store your payment card details; these are handled entirely by Stripe.
License validation server (getjustcook.com) — if you purchase Just Cook Pro, your license key is sent to our server to verify your subscription status. No other personal data is sent as part of this process.
The extension may also open third-party websites — including Instacart, Walmart, Amazon, Kroger, and the Chrome Web Store — when you explicitly click a button to do so (for example, choosing a store to order ingredients from). Just Cook does not share any user data with these sites; it simply opens them in a new tab at your request.
Just Cook does not use any analytics or event-tracking service, and does not monitor how you use the extension.
Reasonable technical measures are used to protect temporary recipe data stored via Firebase and license data sent to our validation server. All other data remains locally on your device and is never transmitted.
